Save the dates! 2018 Fete & Hill Race

Some important dates for your diary! This year’s fete will be held on Sat 9 June from 1-4pm. The village hill race will be the following day on Sun 10th at 1pm and we’re hoping to hold a kid’s disco on the Friday evening.

Watch out for more information nearer the date and mark your diaries for a weekend of community fun!

It’s Freezing! (AGM news)

We held the Hall’s AGM last night and you’ll be pleased to know that it isn’t only the weather that is freezing! For the 3rd year running we are NOT increasing the rates for booking the hall.

We’ve had a really good year up at the hall with new front doors fitted, new flooring in the kitchen, ante-room and corridor, new carpet in the old entrance, a new fire alarm and also re-decoration of the ante-room, corridor and both entrances. The hall is now in use 5 nights a week for classes, is home to the Baby & Toddler group and also hosts parties, concerts, ceilidhs and events.

For the first time in many years we can now pretty much cover our running costs from the letting income and that means that money raised at the annual fete can go towards further maintenance and improvements. Next on our list is work on the flat roof and we are hoping to remodel and improve the gent’s loos and the shower room.

Hall Improvements

More small improvements up at the hall: we’ve had the fire alarm system upgraded and a new smart electricity meter installed. No more laying on the floor to read the meter under the shelf!

You may also have noticed the improved parking area at the garages / park – we cheekily asked the contractors if they would fill the big pothole on the hall access road and they very kindly went one better, using their left over tar to tarmac up and over it. Thanks very much M&M Road surfacing, it’s much better!

Hill Race 2017 – Winning Times

The rain and thunder held off and we had another cracking Hill Race in Abernethy. 75 of you ran up and down Castlelaw in less than 45 minutes, more than half of you were children!

This year saw the retirement of Colin Morrison as race organiser extraordinaire, although he couldn’t stay away altogether and was busy marshalling instead. Colin has spent many years (10?) organising the hill race and ensuring it’s success and deserves big thanks for his hard work and dedication. Keir Allen took on the mantle this year and did a grand job of sorting, organising, strimming, checking, shouting, awarding and all the other bits that go into running a successfull hill race. Looks like it is in very good hands for the future.
